The Swede (Denver Rebels Book 2)

By Maureen Smith

Maureen Smith, WELCOME BACK!!!! After reading the first novel, WICKED GAMES, I gained a greater appreciation for the game of hockey and the men who play the game. After THE SWEDE, I am now fascinated by Sweden’s finely sculptured “Men of the North”! Smith’s much anticipated second novel in her Denver Rebels series, is dripping with passion, yet thoughtfully explores some social issues that aren’t normally confronted in this genre.

This time around, Smith pairs Scarlett Warner, a black indie rock phenom with Viggo Sandström, the Swedish superstar center of the Denver Rebels. Scarlett and Viggo’s intense attraction kept my Kindle in a perpetual state of steaminess. Throw in a feeling of déjà vu, as in you’ve always known each other and are united by fate, and presto, an intriguing love story is born! Despite their intense chemical attraction, the leading characters stubbornly deny the depth of their mutual attraction which allows external factors to take advantage of this indecisiveness with attempts to sabotage their fragile union. If this isn’t enough, Smith also explores the challenges of a long distance relationship between two temperamental highly competitive professionals. Their separation coping method is another reason my Kindle is in therapy…

This novel is a hefty forty-four chapters, but I agree with Smith that Scarlett and Viggo’s story deserved in-depth treatment. The writing is fantastic, the story is well crafted and holds your attention, the supporting characters are fully developed (Scarlett’s mother is too funny!) and did I mention this story is HOT??? THE SWEDE earns a rating of five ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!
